Just around the corner from Lands End, on the northern side, is the beautiful
Sennen Cove, with its houses rising up the hillside. Further on is the wide
expanse of Whitesand Bay stretching almost all the way to Aire Point beyond
Gwenver. This is a very popular spot both with holiday makers, surfers and
locals, because this stretch of sand is irresistible and the surf can be
dynamic. The cove is used by local fishermen and is the home of the famous
Sennen Lifeboat.
There are two great walks from the cove. The
first, to Lands End, is a cliff-top walk which begins from the car park beyond
the Roundhouse and is part of the South West Coastal Path. It climbs easily from
the rear of the car park and once you have reached the top at Pedn-men-du it
levels off and stays that way. Sometimes dolphins can be seen here as well as
seals and all the different seabirds that nest on the cliffs. Also on this walk
you will pass by the 
ancient Maen Castle,
dating back prior to 300 BC, and now under the auspices of The National
Trust.
The second walk goes in the other direction taking you along and behind the
beaches but following close to the shore line, completing the curve of Whitesand
Bay. Start the walk where the footpath meets the lane coming into the
cove. Nearly at the bottom of the hill, it runs above and behind the beach car
park, climbs up into the dunes a little way and then drops down towards the
beach. You can follow this path right round to Aire Point and walk back along
the beach if the tide is out.
