Not
so long ago there was just an hotel at Lands End, with a few other buildings on
a cliff top and a sign post pointing to America. Now it is a huge tourist
complex with various attractions including shops, restaurant, exhibitions,
animal farm etc. There is also a large coach/car park and bus stop and the usual
conveniences. Of course large numbers of people have always visited this toe of
England because it is the very end, and it remains a great beauty spot, with
staggering cliffs and the Long-ships Lighthouse just offshore.
Further out is the Bishops Rock Lighthouse and on a
clear day you can see the Scilly Isles in the distance.
There is a beautiful walk in a southerly direction to Nanjizel Bay and back.
Just follow the coastal path from Lands End, but please take care to stay on the
paths as there has been increasing erosion in recent years.
The bay is a great spot to spend a couple of hours on a warm summer's day and if
the tide is out you may well find there is a sandy beach to explore.
